In this investigation, students construct two linear functions to figure out if adding more turns to the coiled wire of a two-battery electromagnet results in any difference in strength when compared with a one-battery electromagnet.

The Predicting Electromagnet Strength Math kit includes all the materials that students will need to design and carry out an investigation.

Each kit contains enough materials for eight groups of students.

  • Iron nails
  • Rubber Twist Ties (to hold the wire)
  • Paperclips 
  • Measuring Tapes
